Today I surprised our soon to be graduating 8th graders with these signs. Veazie pride does not end at 8th grade graduation. "Small School, BIG Heart!" Thanks to the VCS PTO for funding the project.

A sneak peak at the progress being made on the new Veazie Community School gym floor. Painters are still working on our center court logo to be followed by 4 more coats of a sealer. Hopefully it won’t be too long before we are hearing sounds of bouncing basketballs and squeaky sneakers. Go Vikings!

First Grade has been working hard during Zoom each day. Today we did math, spelling and shared reading. We have been learning how to use Google Docs and one of our friends shared a letter with us. It was so sweet! However, the most important thing we did today was...THE CRUNCH TEST!!! Towards the end of our session we were talking about all the things we missed about school. We remembered the Crunch Test and just had to do it! We challenge you, VCS staff and students, to do the Crunch Test in your next Zoom meeting. You'll be glad you did :)!

April 8, 2020 8:00 a.m. EST COVID-19 MEMO #8 REMOTE LEARNING EXTENDED THROUGH REMAINDER OF CALENDAR YEAR Dear Parents and Caregivers, At approximately 8:30 p.m. last night, the following advisory was released by Maine Commissioner of Education, Pender Makin: “As you know…, US CDC guidance recommends an 8 to 20 week timeframe for avoiding large group/in-person instruction once there is evidence of community transmission of COVID-19. I am recommending, with the support of the Governor, that (Maine schools)….replace classroom/group instruction with remote/distance learning for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year.” This announcement means that together with other districts across Maine, Veazie Community School will continue our current remote instruction model for the remainder of the school year. The current last student day of school is scheduled for Wednesday, June 10 (when counting the 3 make-up days due to early winter storms). Reminder of Grade Level Advancement: I want to emphasize that students in good standing will move to the next grade level for the 2020-2021 school year as would normally be the case. All receiving high schools are committed to enroll our graduating 8th grade students regardless of end of year circumstances. Snow Day on Friday?: No. The remote learning environment we currently have setup will continue as scheduled so that we can stick with our scheduled last student day of Wednesday, June 10. Food Delivery: Beginning Monday, April 13, we will deliver meals once/week. Instead of prepared meals, we will shift our coordination to providing food supplies for families to make the meals. This will reduce our need for essential staff to travel to school on a regular basis—this supports social distancing and helps to keep people safe. We will not be delivering food during April School Vacation. April School Vacation: VCS will honor April School Vacation as a true vacation. There will be no remote learning/instruction during the week of April 20 - 24. If you are concerned with how your child is doing emotionally you can contact NAMI MAINE HELPLINE at 1-800-464-5767—Press 1. Please continue to use your children’s teachers as resources for support with remote learning. Do not hesitate to contact me personally should you have further questions. Thank you for your continued support. I am proud of our students, staff, and families for our perseverance and grit during these difficult times. Please take care of each other. Sincerely, Matthew D. Cyr Superintendent & Principal
